A website is a business card. When you first decide to create a website you decide on a name, your domain name, this is the name you choose to brand yourself with and it is the name people will remember, and if they remember most chances are that they will come back for more.
Once choosing a name, your web design is also important, you choose how your website will look like, you choose the colors, the header, the sign, make it remember able one and your visitors will come back.

your office, people will first see you on your website and get the first impression, this is where you need to catch their eyes and let them have what they are looking for.
With you new website come a new email address. This is your business address. Keep your business and privet life separated and don't mix them up.
Your website is your advertising platform. Promote your affiliate programs and products on your website. You can advertise more than a few products and programs on one website and have recurring visitors, if you are promoting an affiliate link your visitors may never come back, but if you have the link on your website you keep them closer.
Once you own a website you own your business, you can host your blog on your website and you can post your ads, new and articles on your website, you are in charge and no one can take this away from you.
When creating your own website you are generating more ways for you to promote and advertise, submitting to link directories and search engine optimization are thing that you can only do if you have a website.
With your own website, your visitors and costumers can contact you at whatever time they want, they can ask question, comment and leave a feedback, directly to you.
You can also have costumer support, contact your costumers, build a long term relationship with them and build credibility.
Keep in mind, your website is your online business. It is your face, your photo and the only thing your visitors remember after a short visit. Like any other business you want returning costumers, and you need to provide them a place to come back to.
Your internet business is like an office or a store. You need to use a sign (your header), a business card, an address (your domain name), a pleasing office (appealing website). If you have all of these and a very good customer support, your costumers will come again.
